It's very unlikely that another saxophonist existed in the entirety of New York City that was as busy in the recording studio as King Curtis was in 1960-and for that matter, during the years before and after. His diamond-hard yakety solos were crucial to the Rock and Roll success story of the Coasters, and King's instantly recognizable horn graced countless more '50 's and '60 's R&B platters as both bandleader and sideman. But Curtis was nothing if not a versatile presence in the studio. He was developing a solid reputation within the Jazz field at the dawn of the decade, waxing albums for Prestige with the likes of Nat Adderley, Wynton Kelly, and Oliver Nelson in support. These extremely rare sides presented here feature a cast of Jazz greats including Ernie Royal, Panama Francis, Billy Bauer, Mundell Lowe, Marshall Royal and Garvin Bushell. Featured here is the 1961 single "Jaywalk" coupled with the classic Erroll Garner piece, "Misty" from the same session. Newly re-mastered.
